Fortaleza
Fortaleza Fortaleza is the capital of the state of Ceará and is located in the north east of Brazil, just below the equator. The state of Ceará counts more or less 8,1 million people, including the 1,7 million people that live in Fortaleza. This city is founded in 1611 by Martim Soares Moreno, a Portuguese. In 1649 the Dutch came, under the command of Mathias Beck, and arrived at the beach of Iracema. There they built a fortress named Fortress ‘Schoonenborgh’. This fortress can still be visited. Nice to know is that the city Fortaleza owes her name to this Dutch fortress. In 1655 the fortress was taken over by the Portuguese. Around it, gradually, Portuguese people established themselves there. Later they changed the name of the fortress in Nossa Senhora da Assunçao.
Temperature The weather is comfortably warm during the whole year, but in March and April it can be raining. The temperature is pretty much stabile all year through from about 24 degrees up to a little above 30 degrees. Often, and certainly in the evening, you are aware of this coolish breeze. This all makes Fortaleza a holiday destination to visit all year through.
Townspecials Fortaleza is a remarkable city. Day and night there are things to do on the beaches and near the many small ‘baracccas’ with local or international music. You can eat the most delicious typically Ceará meals in many places. On many spots you will find places where you can buy (hand made) products: ceramic, straw hats and leather products. Especially the finest handiwork (beach)towels, table cloths, purses etcetera, made from cotton, silk or toile. In Brazil labour costs are still on very low level and that’s why it is possible to buy these high quality products at a bargain price. Of course you must visit the malls ‘Aldeota’ and ’Iguatemi’. Especially this last one is a huge and luxurious mall, where you can buy almost everything you would like. And of course you will confronted again with those unreal non-European prices; really amazing. But take care: your suitcase might appear to be too small on your way back home!
Excursions There are many sightseeing possibilities. Of course you can choose to come along with all kinds of (cheap) excursions which are offered to you at many places, but you can also decide to go on your own. The Dutch Touch can advice you what to see and where to find this. We would advice in any case to rent your own car for at least 1 day (of course you do so for the same low price as everywhere in Brazil!) to see several fabulous beautiful beaches and picturesque small fishermen villages. But there is also the possibility to see the cathedral of Fortaleza, the very old theatre, the fortress that was build by the Dutch and Portuguese colonists in the 17th century and also the estate that used to be the state prison. The history and other stories of this last location will be explained and told to you by the official who works there. Or go one day to the Aqua park with their dazzling slides and other water play’s.

In general concerning prices: the named prices are based on the whole apartment and in low season. The minimum number of nights are five. Note: Apartmentowners sometimes ask for significally higher prices during high season and special days. Because of this reason our offered price can be higher then as written here below. At least we try to give you this way a indication of the rental price.
